How Do You Work ON Your Business?

As business owners and leaders, we know that working ON your business (not just IN it) is the key to keeping your company on track, moving in the right direction, achieving success, and sustaining growth. It is easier said than done, but there are specific actions you can take to make this process a habit.

Working ON your business can be defined as investing your time, energy, and efforts into building, managing, and adjusting your business strategy and model, as opposed to focusing on the execution of day-to-day tasks. It includes setting goals and objectives – both short and long-term – and defining the steps necessary to achieve them. It also involves monitoring and measuring the progress of those steps.

The challenge for many business owners – especially those of small businesses – is in freeing up the time to dedicate to this important task. Additionally, once that time is freed up, the next challenge is knowing what to work on in order to optimize that time.

For answers and a crash course on working ON your business, join us at our upcoming Exit Planning Peer Advisory Board (PAB) meeting on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. We are opening up this special meeting to guests. Our discussion will focus on this essential element of business success and will include the following topics:

  • Tips to help you find the time to work ON your business and do it regularly.
  • Determining the aspects of your business on which you should focus.
  • How KPIs inform your activities when working on your business
  • How to identify your company’s Value Drivers and prioritize them
  • How this approach informs both your business plan and eventual exit, from a CPA’s perspective

Current PAB members as well as guests are welcome to join us at this special PAB meeting. Alongside other business owners, you’ll come away with actionable ways to devote more time and focus on your business. Details are as follows:

  • Wednesday, September 18, 2024
  • 7:30 – 9:00 AM
  • Join Via Zoom – I’ll send you login info once you sign up.
  • This special meeting is free for guests to attend.
  • Contact me to reserve your spot or if you’d like more information.

One of the greatest values our PAB participants express is the sharing of experience and ideas between business owners so please bring along at least one of the following:

  • A tip for how you find time to work on your business or an obstacle to finding time.
  • A challenge you face related to working on your business.
  • A success you’ve experienced through working on your business.

The benefits of working ON your business are many and may help prevent those fires you’ve been putting out when working only IN your business. It will save you stress, headaches, resources, and money, and position you for greater profitability, scalability, and growth. And you’ll have more time to do what you do best and to lead more effectively.

I look forward to seeing you and sharing ideas on this topic that is essential to your business success.
